My ducks...

Hey friends,

Just a quick heads up for you! I'm getting my ducks in a row and hoping to kick off the project next week! Didn't want you to think I'm flaking on ya! Be sure to send me any ideas you might have. Remember I need 365 days worth of ideas, big and small!

Happy Monday!

Great minds think alike!

I woke up this morning to my droid alerting me that an email (from my mother, not a dreamy guy or anything crazy like that!) had arrived. Groggy-eyed and still half asleep, while fighting the dog off of me and the cat off the bed, I reached for the phone and read the news... Someone had already done my project! Someone else started this Random Act of Kindness mission already! Someone stole my idea that I swear I made up on a dreary Saturday! Someone beat me to it! I am too late! I am behind the times! I missed the boat! As Hilary Duff sings, I am "so yesterday!"

After waking up, honestly feeling a little discouraged, I enjoyed a cup of joe (decaf of course), and listened to a work-related conference call. I started to zone and began to realize (just like the Grinch realized it in "How the Grinch Stole Christmas") that it's okay that someone has done this! It's actually really, super, freakin' awesome that someone has done this! Isn't that the point anyway?! Who am I to be upset that someone else is trying to bring joy to this world?! Thinking about it now, I am actually LOLing! It makes my heart smile knowing that I'm not the only fool in this world trying to make people smile!

So now, join me in giving Agent L a round of applause for her all the work she has done, all the agents she has inspired, and for giving me a glimmer of hope! I want to share with you my new favorite blog! www.secretagentl.com

Yes, I watch Kathy Lee & Hoda...

So being a sales rep I work from home quite often... but especially in the mornings when I'm slowly rolling into "work mode." When it comes to morning television and news, there are two types of people: The GMA people and The Today Show people. I am, and always have been, a Today Show girl. This past year, when they decided to add another full hour of the show... what are we up to hour 3 or 4?!... I was a little hesitant to invite KLG and Hoda into my morning paperwork and cereal routine, but I did. And they often make great points and occasionally make me laugh.

Everyday when they kick off hour three of the Today Show they start by simply rambling about life, alcohol, and whatever current events are, well, current! Yesterday they caught my attention when they were both complaining about how people just aren't nice anymore. They both seemed to agree with the fact that people just don't seem to care about each other. I don't remember the issue that spurred on this conversation, but was shocked to hear that I'm not the only one who feels this way!

Flash forward 24 hours and this morning they shared a story about a lady who gave her Platinum AmEx card to a homeless man who was looking for some cash to buy a Vitamin Water and a pack of cigarettes. Now, why the man wanted the Vitamin Water over say, water water, is not really the point of this (however please refer to a post I made years ago on my personal blog for more information about how I feel about Vitamin Water...) Anyway, the point of this is that this woman gave this homeless man her credit card, he left, AND THEN BROUGHT IT BACK (!!) after he bought his Vitamin Water and cigarettes.

Good for this lady for doing that! Good for the man for bringing it back! Both of them deserve tons of credit for their goodwill and trust in strangers! I am about to begin this project with a glimmer of hope, and I know that I wouldn't be able to trust a stranger with my credit card. But think about it, how crazy would this world be if everyone behaved like this generous lady and this homeless man?

Where to begin?

Is it totally and completely sad that I have a list of things to do before I "begin" being nice to people? Yes, yes it is. Don't get me wrong, in general, I think that I'm a really nice person. I don't kick puppies, I do missions work in third world countries, and I often bake goodies for my neighbors. But I have no idea where to begin with this project. So I've settled with blogging.

Honestly, this is completely intimidating to me. I mean this is a year long commitment. A year. Not a day or a month, but a year. 365 day. 52 weeks. Approximately 8766 hours! That's a lot of hours. Here's to hoping I stick with it beyond one week!

The blogging process has begun. Next on my list is to design a logo (wanna help?) make cards of some sort and to begin a list of nice things to do. I need help with a list of nice things to do for people. I need approximately 365 ideas. Be creative! You will get credit for any ideas you give me!

Here's to making someone smile!
